Thx for the dog event info. BTW, do any of u guys face problems with your dogs everytime after sending your dogs to any kind of doggie event?

I've personally experienced my cocker contracting sarcoptic mange on 2 occasions at puppycom event. One was approx 1.5 yrs ago & the other only recently. However, my recent case was just a mild one as we've given her a dose of Ivermectin injection & it had instantly subsided...

Not that I want to be negative abt doggie events or I would want to blame on irresponsible pet owners, just do be careful! I believe many dog owners do not even know when their pet is infested by the dreaded mites of any kind! It is unfortunate that sarcoptic mange mites are of the infectious type.

Cheers,
Nina

hi Nina,
Usually i just let them run free n spent more time with them.. no expert in this, but i guess cocker always like to be with human, they dont like to leave alone..just that is what the vets said during one of my visit to inject demange to one of the rescue pup.

usually d dog coat will look harsh n dry if they r being bath too often will heavy chemical/drugs like bayticol....did u face any prob like this on ur dog??

as for d tick collar...it might be dangerous if u had more than 1 dog...if they happen to bite on each other collar, then they might get intoxicated..

Hi Amanda,

Thx for yr valid points. Yes, Bayticol somewhat causes hair to look dull (not harsh though), so does Malaseb causes dry flaky skin. As much as I try not to use chemicals, I haven't found a way to prevent them fr catching all sorts of bugs, not unless they are homebound.

However, dogs are dogs, if they are banned from going out, then they would be lifeless. Appreciate if u hv other suggestions on how to overcome ticks, mites, mange & other common skin problems.

Heard abt giving garlic pills or fresh garlic cloves. Dun know how effective is it but hv now started to mix fresh garlic into my doggies' cooked meat mixed with dry dog biscuits. They just love it!

Cheers,
Nina

last yr, i used frontline.....but later, i notice tat my dog no longer attract any ticks no matter where i bring her, then i had stop using it....better save d money, rather than keep spraying as prevention....

I think cocker dont like being alone, may be spent more time with them would help. and they dont like being lock up. no expert in this, just some comments from a vet in taipan during one of my visit to demange one of the rescue pup. Very Happy
